Associate Engineer

Position Summary: The Associate Engineer position is responsible for maintaining The Teff Company’s equipment and aiding in the design and implementation of new equipment and processes. The Associate Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and work in collaboration with other stakeholders within the company. You’ll be joining a fast-growing entrepreneurial company working to deliver high quality teff and teff-based products to consumers and manufacturers.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Maintain food processing and storage equipment

  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and optimized
  • Perform maintenance troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance tasks as necessary and assigned to ensure equipment is properly maintained and perform as designed
  • All work should be executed in accordance with food safety and workplace safety guidelines

Develop understanding of teff and teff processing requirements

  • Understand the specific engineering requirements of teff
  • Apply understanding of the physical properties of teff and the quality requirements to the function of current equipment and the design of new equipment

 Facilitate research, design and implementation of equipment or improvements to current equipment

  • Research machines and technologies necessary for agricultural product handling and food manufacturing
  • Design proposals for new processing systems
  • Improve the function and efficiency of current company processing equipment
  • Work with stakeholders across the company to understand engineering requirements

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with engineering focus preferred
  • 2-4 years’ experience in mechanical or controls engineering, preferably in the food industry
  • Self-motivated, curious and comfortable with ambiguity typical of a small, growing company
  • Thorough understanding of engineering concepts and familiarity with industrial controls systems
  • Technical knowledge, including diagnostic and repair abilities, with manufacturing equipment including hydraulics, bearings, pneumatics and filtration systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with equipment fabrication and welding skills a plus
  • Read and create CAD drawings, technical drawings, and specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in practical settings
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively, as required, to complete projects and initiatives
