A simple, quick way to make your teff porridge using a 3 to 1 ratio. Add your favorite toppings and seasonings to make it your own!
Ingredients
- 1 cup (200 g) teff grain
- 3 cups water
- ¼ - ½ tsp salt, optional
Directions
Stovetop Method
- Toast teff over medium heat in a heavy saucepan. Stir constantly until it starts to pop.
- Add water slowly, stir and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat, cover the saucepan, and let simmer for about 20-30 minutes.
- Serve with your choice of toppings.
Instant Pot Method
- Combine teff grains, water and salt, if using, in your Instant Pot. Make sure the lid gasket is placed correctly, lock the lid and close the vent.
- Cook on high pressure for 7 minutes. Release pressure with ‘quick release’ method.
- Once all pressure has been released, open your pot and stir immediately to allow the teff grains to absorb any remaining water that appears on the top.
- Serve with your choice of toppings.
Recipe Note
To make apple compote: add diced apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey to a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook until apples have softened and honey has created a syrup. Let cool slightly to allow syrup to thicken before serving.
