About The Teff Company:
We are a farm-to-fork food manufacturer specializing in the growing and processing of teff, an ancient grain best known as the primary ingredient of injera, the staple in Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine. We are one of very few companies in the United States growing and processing it end to end — from our own fields to the flour a restaurant makes injera from that week. Our primary customer base includes store owners and restauranteurs supplying teff for purposes of making injera, and we are continuing to explore different applications for this tasty, nutritious, and versatile ancient grain. You’ll be joining a family-owned company working to deliver high-quality teff and teff-based products to consumers and manufacturers.
About the Position:
This new role executes the standard our food is made to, on the floor every day. The person in this position keeps the sanitation program running to a standard, is visible on the floor, and comfortable reminding team members about a GMP that lands as help rather than policing. This role takes pride in a clean plant and fixing the cause rather than writing up the symptoms. In turn, this person will own a defined program from day one; work directly with the Safety & Quality Manager, Compliance Monitor and QA Technician; and have room to shape food-safety and sanitation culture as the company grows. This person participates in safety and compliance training programs.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Sanitation and Cleaning Program Execution
· Ensure execution and continuous improvement of cleaning and sanitation programs on the floor
· Perform and record cleaning and sanitation tasks per SSOPs
· Maintain sanitation supplies and the correct labeling and location of cleaning equipment
Floor-Level Food Safety Monitoring
· Serve as a continuous floor presence monitoring GMP and food-safety practices, distinct from the Compliance Monitor’s spot inspections
· Champion food-safety and workplace-safety culture and provide in-the-moment coaching and reminders
· Support food safety on the floor alongside product testing
Continuous Improvement & Support
· Identify and act on sanitation and food-safety improvement opportunities
· Support audit readiness by executing programs to standard (documentation owned by the Compliance Monitor)
· Collaborate with other teams (Production and Logistics) with loading and receiving grain
· Perform regular check ins with Compliance Monitor to give and receive feedback
· Perform other related food-safety and sanitation duties, as agreed
Skills and Experience:
· High school education or equivalent; food-safety training (GMP, SSOP) or willingness to obtain
· 1–3 years in food manufacturing, sanitation, or food-safety roles
· Working knowledge of GMPs, cleaning/sanitation practices, and food-safety fundamentals
· Detail-oriented, dependable, and safety-minded, with strong floor presence and communication
· Ability to coach peers and champion a food-safety culture
· Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
· Forklift Certified or willingness to obtain
Work Environment:
· Continuous presence on the manufacturing/warehouse floor performing sanitation and cleaning work
· Physically active — standing, lifting, and use of cleaning equipment and chemicals
· Works in an area that is not heated or cooled and can be dusty and noisy
· Uses required PPE for sanitation and food-safety tasks
