Introducing Organic Teff
We are excited to now offer organic teff. Teff is already a very resource efficient and low input crop, so it was logical to work with our farmers to get organic teff to market. We currently offer ivory organic teff flour, and we hope to add ivory organic teff grain, as well as brown organic teff grain and flour very soon.
Organic teff is certified to be grown on organic land, without the use of certain chemicals or fertilizers. Besides being very water efficient, teff has not been bred to use large amounts of fertilizers, as many other crops do. In some ways, that made the job of growing organic teff much easier. Our job was to identify skilled farmers who had organic land available, and were growing other organic crops that would complement teff in the crop rotation.
Our first organic crop was one of our highest yielding crops, demonstrating that teff can do very well in an organic system, as well as the conventional crops. We hope as we gain more experience, we can continue to improve on that performance.
