Classic Teff Porridge

A simple, quick way to make your teff porridge using a 3 to 1 ratio. Add your favorite toppings and seasonings to make it your own!

Instant Pot Method

  1. Combine teff grains, water and salt, if using, in your Instant Pot. Make sure the lid gasket is placed correctly, lock the lid and close the vent.
  2. Cook on high pressure for 7 minutes. Release pressure with ‘quick release’ method.
  3. Once all pressure has been released, open your pot and stir immediately to allow the teff grains to absorb any remaining water that appears on the top.
  4. Serve with your choice of toppings.

Stovetop Method

  1. Toast teff over medium heat in a heavy saucepan. Stir constantly until it starts to pop.
  2. Add water slowly, stir and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat, cover the saucepan, and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes. 
  3. Serve with your choice of toppings.

  • Garlic salt/powder
  • Miso broth
