Heat the oil and butter on medium heat in a large saucepan or a Dutch oven. Add the onions and garlic and cook until soft, not browned. Turn down the heat if necessary.
Add the tomato paste, honey, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, and cayenne pepper and stir to combine. Brown for 3-5 minutes.
Add the tomatoes, crushing them with your hands. Add the remaining liquid from the cans after you’ve emptied them of tomatoes. Stir and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat so the mixture stays at a steady simmer and let it cook uncovered until reduced by half and the texture thickens. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
For a smoother texture, you can puree the sauce in a blender or food processor. Serve with Maskal teff pasta and top with burrata.

¼ cup unsalted butter
1 yellow onion, diced
6 cloves garlic, crushed
